Gutter Repair Services in Northern California

Gutter contractor inspecting and adjusting a residential downspout

Is your gutter leaking at the corner, hanging off the house, or spilling water every time it rains? Give us a call. You might not need to replace the whole thing.

At OrCal Seamless Rain Gutters, we handle gutter repairs throughout Northern California, including Mount Shasta, Redding, Yreka, Weed, Truckee, and Lake Tahoe.

A lot of gutter problems are pretty simple. Maybe a hanger has come loose, the sealant at a corner has worn out, or the gutter isn’t draining toward the downspout like it should. Those are things we can often fix without tearing everything off the house.

Of course, sometimes the damage is worse than it looks. We’ll let you know if that’s the case.

We handle repairs as well as new installations. You can see everything we offer on our rain gutter services page.

Professional Rain Gutter Repair for Homes and Businesses

There’s no reason to replace a perfectly good gutter just because one corner is leaking.

The first thing we look at is what’s actually wrong. Is the gutter loose? Is the water running the wrong direction? Did the snow bend it? Or is it simply full of debris?

A lot of homeowners don’t notice a problem until the first big rainstorm. Then all of a sudden there’s water pouring over the edge or running down the siding.

If the metal is still in good shape, we can often fix the problem by resealing a connection, adjusting the slope, or replacing a few hangers.

But if the gutter is badly bent or the wood behind it is rotten, that’s a different situation. Putting a few screws in it isn’t going to solve much.

Common Gutter Problems We Repair

Leaking Gutter Seams and Corners

If you have seamless gutters, the straight runs shouldn’t have seams every few feet. But you still have corners, end caps, and outlets, and those are usually where leaks start.

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Over time, it can dry out, crack, or pull away from the metal.

Sometimes all that’s needed is to clean up the old sealant and reseal the connection. Other times, the corner itself is damaged and needs to be replaced.

If you see water dripping from the same spot every time it rains, don’t ignore it. Especially if that water is landing right next to your house.

Sagging or Loose Gutters

Gutters shouldn’t be hanging down in the middle or pulling away from the fascia.

Usually there’s a reason. The hangers may have come loose, the fascia could be damaged, or the gutter has been carrying more weight than it should.

This happens quite a bit with snow, especially when it slides off a metal roof.

Sometimes we can put the gutter back where it belongs and secure it with new hangers. But if it’s twisted or bent out of shape, it may need to be replaced.

We also check what the hangers are attached to. If the wood is rotten, new screws alone won’t hold for long.

Gutters That Don’t Drain Properly

Water shouldn’t sit in your gutters for days after it rains.

If it does, there’s probably a low spot, a clogged outlet, or not enough slope toward the downspout.

A lot of times, it’s debris. Pine needles are a big problem around Mount Shasta and the mountain communities. They can pack into the outlets and stop water from getting through.

Other times, the gutter itself needs to be adjusted.

If everything is full of leaves and needles, you may just need our gutter cleaning services.

If the gutter is sagging and holding water, cleaning it won’t fix that.

Damaged Gutter Sections

It doesn’t take much to damage a gutter. A falling branch, a ladder leaning against the wrong spot, or a heavy load of snow can bend the metal.

We see this especially on homes where snow slides off the roof.

If the damage is only in one area, replacing that section may be enough.

The tricky part is matching the existing gutter and making sure the repair will hold up. Sometimes replacing a short section makes sense. Other times, especially with seamless gutters, a longer run needs to be replaced.

Signs Your Rain Gutters Need Repair

You don’t have to climb onto your roof to notice most gutter problems. A lot of them are pretty obvious from the ground.

Here are a few things to watch for:

  • Water dripping from the corners or end caps.
  • Gutters hanging lower in one spot.
  • Water spilling over the front during rain.
  • Downspouts coming loose from the house.
  • Gutters pulling away from the fascia.
  • Bent or crushed sections.
  • Water sitting in the gutter after a storm.
  • Dirt washing away or puddles forming near the house.

One thing worth checking is what happens during a heavy rain. If water is pouring over the edge, pay attention to where it’s happening.

It could be a clogged downspout, a low spot, or a gutter that’s too small for that part of the roof.

If you’re constantly cleaning out leaves and pine needles, gutter covers and guards might be worth considering too.

Gutter Repair vs. Replacement: Which Makes More Sense?

This really depends on how bad the gutters are.

If you have one leaking corner or a loose hanger, there’s usually no reason to replace everything.

But if the gutters are rusted, bent in several places, or have been patched over and over, you’re probably better off putting that money toward new gutters.

The same goes for gutters that were too small to begin with.

For example, if you have a large roof draining into a small gutter and one downspout, resealing the corners isn’t going to stop it from overflowing.

We install both 5-inch and 6-inch seamless gutters, with 6-inch OG K-style being our main product. If your current system isn’t handling the water, a larger gutter or an additional downspout may be worth considering.

Our Gutter Repair Process

You can usually tell us quite a bit about the problem over the phone.

Maybe the gutter came loose during the winter, or you’ve noticed a leak above your front door every time it rains.

Photos are helpful too, especially if you can show us the damaged section and the roofline around it.

For the repair itself, we need to see what shape the gutter is in, how it’s attached, and whether it’s draining correctly.

Some repairs are as simple as replacing hangers or resealing a corner. Others take more work, particularly if the fascia is damaged or the gutter needs to be replaced.

We don’t want to charge you for a repair that’s not going to hold. If something needs replacing, we’ll tell you.

Gutter Repairs for Northern California Weather

The weather around here can be pretty different depending on where you live.

In Redding, Shasta Lake, and Palo Cedro, heavy rain can overwhelm gutters that are too small or don’t have enough downspouts.

Up around Mount Shasta, Weed, and Dunsmuir, snow is a bigger concern.

A gutter might be working perfectly fine all fall, then one heavy winter storm comes through and suddenly it’s hanging off the house.

Metal roofs are especially tricky because snow can slide off in big sheets. When that happens, it can bend the front of the gutter, rip out hangers, or pull the whole thing loose.

We also work in Truckee and Lake Tahoe, where snow damage is something homeowners need to think about when choosing gutters.

If snow keeps tearing your gutters off, simply putting them back up the same way may not solve the problem.

Depending on the roof, we may recommend snow brakes to help hold snow on the roof so it doesn’t all slide off at once.

We offer heavy snow-load gutter installation options, including closer hanger spacing where appropriate. But even a well-secured gutter can be damaged by a large amount of sliding snow.

If you’re considering replacing damaged gutters, take a look at our seamless gutter materials and options.

Residential and Commercial Gutter Repair

We work on houses, cabins, garages, shops, and commercial buildings.

Some jobs are a leaking corner on a house. Others involve longer gutter runs, larger roofs, or downspouts that aren’t keeping up with the amount of water coming off the building.

We also work on outbuildings and other structures where gutters have been damaged or aren’t draining correctly.

The size of the building doesn’t always tell you how difficult the repair will be. Sometimes a small gutter that’s three stories up is more complicated than a long run on a single-story shop.

Why Choose OrCal for Gutter Repair?

We’re not a general handyman company. Gutters are what we do.

We install seamless aluminum, steel, and copper gutters, along with downspouts, gutter covers, and snow brakes.

That means when we’re looking at an older gutter system, we’re also thinking about how it was installed, whether it’s the right size, and why it’s having problems.

We’re not going to tell you every gutter needs replacing just because it’s old.

But we’re also not going to recommend patching something that’s falling apart.

If a repair makes sense, great. If you’d be better off replacing a section or starting fresh, we’ll explain why.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gutter Repair

Can leaking rain gutters be repaired?

Yes. If the leak is at a corner, end cap, or connection, we can often reseal it. If the metal is damaged, we may need to replace that piece.

Why are my gutters sagging or pulling away from the house?

Usually it’s loose hangers, damaged fascia, or too much weight in the gutter. Snow can also pull gutters loose, especially on metal roofs.

Can gutters be repaired without replacing the entire system?

Yes. If the rest of the gutters are in good condition, we may be able to fix or replace just the damaged section.

What causes standing water inside rain gutters?

Most of the time it’s a clogged outlet, a low spot, or the gutter doesn’t have enough slope toward the downspout.

Is it better to repair or replace old gutters?

If the metal is still solid and the problem is small, repairing it may be worth it. If the gutters are badly bent, rusted, or leaking in several places, replacement may make more sense.

Can heavy snow damage rain gutters?

Definitely. Sliding snow can bend gutters, pull out hangers, and even tear gutters away from the house. Snow brakes may help, depending on your roof.

Does OrCal repair seamless rain gutters?

Yes. We can evaluate leaking corners, loose sections, and damaged seamless gutters. Whether they can be repaired depends on how bad the damage is.
